The remains of Lascorz's Kawasaki

JOAN Lascorz has been airlifted to hospital following a 120mph crash in testing at Imola yesterday.

The 27-year old Kawasaki rider crashed in the morning session on the uphill section of the circuit from Tosa to Piratella, destroying his ZX-10R in the process. The session was red-flagged, Lascorz was treated at the circuit's medical centre and then airlifted to hospital in Bologna.

Lascorz is thought to have, among other injuries, fractured a cervical vertebrae, the C6 at the top of his spine. Lascorz was operated on in the afternoon to reduce swelling and minimize the risks of his injury but his condition is still serious and he remains in intensive care.
