Barry Veneman will step up to join the BMW Italia squad substituting the injured James Toseland at Assen.

The Dutchman makes his World Superbike debut in his home round at the Assen circuit. Veneman takes the place of Toseland, who injured his right wrist in a testing crash at Aragon, and was selected due to his expertise and experience of the Dutch circuit alongside his knowledge of the BMW S1000RR that he competes in the German IDM Championship, as well as completing development tests with the official BMW Motorrad team.

Veneman is best known for campaigning in the World Supersport series on one of the sole Suzuki GSX-R600s in the past and his racing experience includes a year in MotoGP onboard a two-stroke 500 as well as a member of the winning team at the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

Toseland is expected to make a return when the championship moves on to Monza in May.
