CANADIAN Brett McCormick will make a full recovery after suffering serious injuries in the second race at Assen.
The former Canadian Superbike champion was running in 11th position when he collided with Carlos Checa and tumbled heavily, injuring his spine, face, eye and hand.
McCormick, who made his World Superbike debut on the fourth Effenbert Liberty Ducati at Imola, tweeted the below picture and said: "C5 is broke in half but a stable break. No nerve damage. #lucky."
A further update was posted on the 20-year-old’s personal website from his father Grant: “Thanks for all the well wishes everybody!
“Brett is sleeping comfortably and will be assessed tomorrow, to see if surgery is necessary to stabilize his C5.
“Other than that a broken thumb and assorted bruises etc (two black eyes).
“He was lucky and will be making a full and speedy recovery.
“I would like to thank Shoei and Alpinestars for doing an awesome job and keeping this from being much worse.
“Have to add how unbelievably supportive the Effenbert-Liberty team has been, feels like family. The best.
“And a huge thank you to all the track side & medical centre staff for their time & attention to Brett following his crash.”
