Crescent Suzuki to World Superbike

British Superbike team announces participation in the 2012 World Superbike championship

CRESCENT Suzuki have announced that the team will make the move to World Superbike next season.

The rider line-up has yet to be confirmed but the structure of the team is to remain the same. John Hopkins may join, but the BSB runner-up has a desire for a MotoGP return.

Crescent has already had success on the world stage with numerous wild card appearances, including John Reynolds taking podium at Brands Hatch in 2003 and more recently Hopper's pole position at Silverstone this year.

The Paul Denning owned outfit released this statement:

Crescent Suzuki, the south of England based Superbike racing team, is pleased to announce its participation in the 2012 World Superbike Championship.

Crescent has supplied Suzuki motorcycles from its dealership since 1963 and has competed in the British Superbike Championship since 1996. The Crescent Suzuki team has enjoyed Championship success in both Supersport and Superbike classes, and only missed out on the 2011 British Superbike title, with American rider John Hopkins, by the very narrowest of margins after a thrilling finale. The team has also achieved multiple World Superbike podiums over the years, when entered as a 'Wild Card', and achieved pole position with Hopkins at this year’s Silverstone race.

Crescent Suzuki intends to enter the Championship with exactly the same philosophy as it has always maintained – to use the best riders, staff, and machine technology possible and to aim for a completely competitive level of performance. The team is confident that the Suzuki GSX-R1000, with additional developments and enhancements, will be able to compete with the best teams.

Crescent also looks forward to delivering commercial value for its partners, both in the team’s domestic UK market and further afield.

Crescent Suzuki looks forward to announcing its riders and commercial partners for the 2012 World Superbike campaign in due course.

I think this is the best move for Hopkins personally. Do this for a year, let the Moto GP paddock settle down, get CRT pointing in the right direction, then back up there in '13.

I think Hopper will wait a while 'til Suzuki make their minds up how many bikes they will run in MotoGP next season. Even an 800 Suzuki to start with will be better than WSB for Hopper.

Id love to see hopper in world supers this year. like pagik said. let it settle down and work out the kinks of this crt crap then see about a move to gp. although i think he could have a much more successful time in wsb than motogp.

I dunno what to make of all this. If IF Suzuki do go the CRT route, I reckon it would be a bit of a shame. But I can understand the reasons,...
