BMW have announced they they're to quit the F1 World Championship at the end of this season.
The German giant told the world's press they're undergoing a 're-alignment' of their motorsport activities which sees the high-budget F1 entry being shelved for 2010.
This season is BMW's first in World Superbikes and on launching their entry earlier this year, BMW head-honchos told the world's press that they were in it for the long haul, come rain or shine, so it would be strange to see them depart from WSB before they've even got going. We predict they'll want solid podiums in year three and if that's not the case, their WSB campaign may well be canned.
Troy Corser led BMW to their highest ever finish at last weekend's WSB round at Brno, qualifying 6th, leading both races and scoring a season's best result of fifth.
Perhaps some of the money saved from F1 will be diverted to the WSB cause?
