Update from the reigning WSB champion
INJURING himself in bizarre crash in qualifying for the last round at the Nurburgring Max Biaggi may be forced to miss Imola as the recovery to his foot isn't going as quickly as expected.
The incident saw a piece of circuit draining hit the Aprilia rider, after being kicked up by the rider ahead and striking Biaggi and resulting in broken left foot. Gritting his teeth through the pain the 2010 WSB champion still managed to qualify on the front row in Superpole with a battered left foot. The Roman attempted to race on the following day but was sidelined with the original diagnosis of a fracture to his metatarsus.
Missing both rounds in Germany saw Biaggi fall further behind Carlos Checa in the championship standings and lose second to Marco Melandri, and it seems that he may be in doubt for the upcoming round at Imola as a result of the slow healing time - even though surgery was not required for the injury he sustained. Updating on his rehabilitation on his website the Roman Emperor said:
Hello people! here I am after 10 days of my accident (damn!!) to write about my physical condition. The pain of the fracture is a bit better only from yesterday. Infact the fracture was broken and I knew it would be more difficult than expected. I am working all day, I am doing important session of therapies as Magnetoteraia and I am trying to do small movements. But the thing is more complicated than expected. Time is short and the difficulty will be huge ....... but I will try with all my strength. I am so looking forward to go racing again!! I am showing you here a picture of mine, first day outside here in Monaco after the accident… finally!! This week will be important to make progress in recovery and I put my soul to be at Imola. I cannot assure you anything except the fact that I will fight to be there. I am constantly in touch with Dr. Costa and my phisiotherapist. In theese long days at home I realize that the time never passes, but my children give me joy and keep up my moral. It is a great sensation. Well, I will leave you know, I will keep you update this week. Ciaooooo
