FORMER MOTOGP man Anthony West posted the fastest on the first day of testing for the new Moto2 class at Valencia.

The Australian, riding an MZ, notched up a best time of 1:37.4 on the 4.005km Valencia track.

The teams are using the test to get to grips with the new machines; test times shouldn't be taken too seriously as the Moto2 squads are still waiting for the official hand-built Honda full-power engines. Instead, teams will run tuned CBR600 motors, while the top-spec engines wait to be delivered.

1. Anthony West (AUS), MZ 1:37,4
2. Julian Simon (E), BQR 1:37,9
3. Roberto Rolfo (I), Suter-MMX 1:38,4
4. Raffaele De Rosa (I), Tech 3 1:39,2
5. Mike di Meglio (FRA), BQR 1:39,3
6. Axel Pons (e), Kalex 1:40,4
7. Sergio Gadea (e), Kalex 1:40,4
8. Alessandro Brannetti (I), CRP 1:40,5

Hope that's not the bodywork they're going to be running with? I thought that, possibly the only good thing to come of another 600 series would be funky prototype bodywork with more of a 250 style. That looks like a CBR600...
