TECH 3 YAMAHA will hold off announcing their chosen riders for next year's MotoGP squad until after the race for the World Superbike Championship is decided, reports Visordown's MotoGP insider.
The latest news is that Yamaha are waiting to see if the triple US champion Ben Spies, who recently signed for two more years with the company, can bag Yamaha its first WSB title. If successful Spies could head to MotoGP in 2010.
The official statement seemed deliberately unclear, saying that “the programme foresees a season in 2010 with the Yamaha World Superbike team … and a switch to Yamaha’s satellite MotoGP team for 2011.”
This possibility was supported by Yamaha Racing MD Lin Jarvis: “Ben’s primary mission is to win … Yamaha’s first World Superbike title. After that when Ben eventually makes his move to MotoGP we will be ready for him.”
