ASPAR is hoping to line-up on the 2012 MotoGP grid with a second Ducati, one rider possibly linked to take that ride is Julian Simón.
Currently riding for the Mapfre Aspar team in the Moto2 championship, the 2009 125GP champion has revealed his intentions to move up to the premier class next season with one ambition to achieve the opportunity of racing against Valentino Rossi, before he retires.
"I would be thrilled to move up to MotoGP next year, but it must be earned on the track." said Simón in an interview with Spanish website As.com.
In March last year Simón had a test aboard a factory Ducati Desmosedici GP10 at Jerez, setting some competitive times the test in Julian's words opened his eyes to the MotoGP category. The chance to move up is written in the contract the Spaniard has with Jorge 'Aspar' Martinez, in that should he finish in the top three in Moto2 a ride would be available in MotoGP. Ideally Julian wishes to step up as a champion in the Moto2 class, alongside his 125cc glory.
Simón is currently out with a fracture to the tibula and fibula sustained in a crash with Kenan Sofuoglu at Catalunya. The Mapfre Aspar rider will be replaced at Assen by the first female to race in the Moto2 class, Elena Rosell.
