Sachsenring drops out of MotoGP for 2012

The GP circus has been held here since 1998

THERE will be no MotoGP round at the Sachsenring circuit in 2012.

In a press conference - being held at the circuit now - ADAC, the organisers of the German MotoGP round, told assembled journalists that the losses from this year's race amounted to 600,000 Euros.

ADAC tried to counter these losses by increasing the ticket price by 10% and restructuring to save 1.25 million Euros. To add insult to injury, Dorna have increased the fee to host the round at the Sachsenring from 2 million Euros to around 4 million and ADAC have calculated this will leave them with a 2.1 million Euro loss.

The GP has been at the Sachsenring since 1998 and this year over 230,000 spectators visited over the MotoGP weekend. Dorna have yet to announce which circuit will take the round vacated by the Sachsenring organisers although it is thought to be between the Nurburgring and Lausitzring.

This is a PROPER blow. Loved watching the Sachsenring round every year, fantastic racing always guaranteed. Never got to go either. Bugger.

Hey Pagik, makes no sense to me why Dorna are upping the cost so much in these times of cuts and austerity !
Hope he's not going the Ecclestone route .... kill bike racing would that, i agree ref the racing there, shouldn't be good as it's a bit nadgery but it always is !

I was watching the World Superbikes at Nurburgring and thought: 'I hope MotoGP never comes here..'

Looks like that's exactly where it's gonna go....

The Sachsenring organisers didn't want to be held at ransom anymore by DORNA.It's a real shame as the Sachsenring is the spiritual home of motorbike racing in Germany. It’s a place with tradition going back many years when there was racing on the old road course. Before the GP was moved there was only a sparse crowd (maybe around 15.000 on raceday) at the Nurburgring.
How can Dorna increase the fee from 2million Euros to roughly 4? How can doubling the fee be justified? Are they hell-bend to destroy the rounds that form the back-bone of the championship? Germany is an important market for the manufacturers and the atmosphere will not be the same at any other circuit, if indeed someone is prepared to host MotoGP for this fee. I do hope the Sachsenring will go for WSB instead but then I hear they are owned now by the same company.

If Dorna are hell bent on removing all the classic tracks and going for a new tracks with loads of money in the middle east type caper, we might as well all pack up and go home now.

Dorna are gonna do exactly what the FIM did to World MX GP, No one wants to run MX GP's cos of costs, the FIM also outpriced themselves at WSB at Brands (well done J Palmer for telling em to stick it) which was the Blue Ribband event and look at the championship now it's going downhill fast. Dorna are hell bent on making this a corperate event like F1, but unlike F1 fans, bike fans will just go for a blast on their bikes on Sunday instead of paying stupid admission prices to watch 17 (if your lucky) riders.

I dunno what to make of all this. If IF Suzuki do go the CRT route, I reckon it would be a bit of a shame. But I can understand the reasons,...
