Championship frontrunner could be snapped up by Yamaha if Honda elect to stick with two-man squad
REPSOL HONDA man Andrea Dovizioso could be riding for Tech 3 Yamaha in next year's MotoGP championship - that's the latest news emanating from the world of premier class racing.
With the recent announcement that Australian Casey Stoner is to join Repsol Honda from 2011, doubt has been thrown over Dovizioso's place in the team, as the squad is to retain Spaniard Dani Pedrosa - a favourite with the team's title sponsor.
Stoner's defection from Ducati could leave Dovizioso out in the cold, making the Italian a prime choice for the vacant slot which will open at Tech 3 Yamaha when Ben Spies moves to fill Valentino Rossi's position in the factory Fiat Yamaha squad. British WSB rider Cal Crutchlow had been initially linked to Spies' place in the Tech 3 squad but an indifferent 2010 and zero MotoGP experience make him a less attractive proposition than Dovizioso, who currently lies second in the 2010 Championship.
However, HRC Vice President Shuhei Nakamoto said he hopes to retain both Pedrosa and Dovizioso for 2011:
"We are very pleased that Casey will join Honda again next year. Clearly he is one of the top riders in MotoGP and he will bring valuable speed and experience to our team. In the factory Honda squad we already have two very strong and experienced riders in Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso who are performing very well and currently hold second and third positions in the 2010 World Championship. HRC hopes also to retain these two riders for next year - giving us what would be a truly formidable line-up."
