VALENTINO Rossi has wished Andrea Dovizioso good luck for when he takes over at Ducati next season.

Ducati announced that Dovizioso will be joining the factory team last Thursday and during the Brno race weekend, Rossi told Bikesportnews.com that the Desmosedici is unlike either the Honda or the Yamaha: “Ducati is very different to ride the bike and bring to the limit. It is impossible to say for Dovi whether it will be more difficult or less.

"I think that anyway from next year a lot of things will change in Ducati, so I have to give my good luck to Dovi and especially to Ducati to fix some problem on the bike and be more competitive.”

Ducati president Gabriele del Torchio told Gazzetta dello Sport this week that the Italian manufacturer plans on re-organising its racing department and work together with Audi, utilising their technology with the Desmosedici, in particular the German car maker's electronics and simulator models.

Following his struggles at Ducati over the past year and a half, and despite Audi's support for the Italian manufacturer, Rossi is returning to Yamaha for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Rossi has wished Andrea Dovizioso good luck.... and under his breath whispers.. "you will need it"

If Dovi can be competitive, Rossi will need a "luck" and a painkiller.

I wish Dovi all the luck in the world. I honestly do hope he can sort that bike out. If it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen now Audi are involved.

Just wondering how many times we'll all hear "new parts coming" nest year.

Unfortunately, if Dovi can come to grips with the Duc it will be attributed to Audi involvement.

The last thing Rossi wants is for Dovi to have "good luck" on the bike - it'll make him look like a loser.

Of course it'll be attributed to Audi, Ducati Corse is a very small outfit compared to HRC or Yamaha. Why wouldn't it be attributed to Audi's involvement?

Let's not fuck about here, there's one thing, and one thing ONLY that makes companies develop cars / bikes / boats, or anything into a race winning machine. Money. And lots and lots of it too. Ducati simply don't have the resources to develop bikes at the same pace the others do. Hence why the parts have dribbled through.

Also, only people that have no idea about what VR has done over the years will think he's a "loser".

And what if Bridgestone change the tyres next year and they all of a sudden suit the Ducati?

What if regulations, what if engine, what if...??

If Dovi does well next year (and let's hope he does) I'm pretty sure it'll be no reflection on anything to with Rossi..

If Rossi had been on the Ducati the year Stoner won, would Rossi have won? Because once new regulations came in - engines, tyres etc... Stoner didn't win again AND left for Honda...

Like Pagik says, the bigger manufacturers have the money to adapt to the regulations and tyres while the smaller companies are left going "that's not fair" for a season.. or 2...

Then again, I work in music, so what would I know? :0)

Good points made Mav. I personally want this controlled tyre rule abandoned. It's nothing but trouble imo. As you rightly say, what if, what if, what if...

Pagik nails the point that rarely is discussed in these threads, and that is that HRC and Yamaha spend incredible amounts of money to have the most technically advanced bikes on the planet. Ducati doesn't ignore what VR or Nicky ask for on thier bikes, they simply don't have the means to do everything the Japanese manufacturers do. It's also why BMW has no interest in Motogp.

Hopefully Audi will bring more resources and cash to Ducati and help them get to fighting for the front again. It's a shame it didn't happen with VR on the bike, but Nicky and Dovi are no slouches and both are capable of wins on the right machine.
