Rossi to Yamaha to be announced next week?

Rossi's return to Yamaha expected to be announced ahead of the Indianapolis MotoGP on August 15th

AUGUST 15th and ahead of the Indianpolis MotoGP is the supposed date for the announcement that Valentino Rossi will be returning to Yamaha in 2013, according to Italian broadcaster Sportmediaset.

The rumour-mill went into rampant overdrive last week after the Italian press stated that Rossi would be returning to the Yamaha factory team next season. This was alongside a post on Niall Mackenzie's Twitter feed that the former GP rider spotted Rossi at the Yamaha HQ, that has since been confirmed as a hoax.

The deal on offer is two-years in MotoGP with a key role in the development of Yamaha's next version of the YZF-R1, ready for their Japanese manufacturer return to the World Superbike championship in 2014. Followed by Rossi's transfer to series in a bid to achieve the accolade of being the first rider to win in both series.

Further to this, Yamaha's interest in Rossi has been spurred by the fact that the Japanese manufacturer has been unable to secure sponsorship backing since they split at the end of 2010.

Rossi's decision to return to his former employer follows two difficult seasons with Ducati that has seen only two podiums for the dream Italian pairing.

The riders looking likely to take Rossi's departed seat at Ducati, are the Tech 3 duo of Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso.

Coincidentally Valentino's announcement that he would be leaving Yamaha to join Ducati was two years ago on August 15th.

I hope it happens, find me a picture, where he's on the duke, with nearly his elbow on the floor (without crashing) and looks happy and confident?

It hasn't worked, the sooner he's on a Yamaha again, the better for me.

Good - o. It's not worked. Ducati haven't given him the tools to do the job. Just draw a line and move on.

Neeeeeeeeeeeeext!!!

Could he be on a Honda? :)

Posted: 07/08/2012 at 16:24

No, no he could not. That's simply NOT going to happen. EVER.

Posted: 07/08/2012 at 16:40

wonder wether the picture above will be in reverse though?

As much as I want to Rossi back at the sharp end on the field, I'm a little bit gutted he couldn't manage it on the Ducati.

Posted: 07/08/2012 at 22:24

well thats not really a story is it? Thats just further speculation. I think we're all just a little bit anxious, like a 5 year old waiting for christmas day

Posted: 07/08/2012 at 22:59

something in the air isnt right about this, ie he had 46 wins at yamaha it was meant to be that way.

i wish suzuki would come along an offer him a contract

Posted: 08/08/2012 at 07:15

+1 on the suzuki! That way he could still win on 3 different manufacturers

pyndman, everything is pointing towards this being essentially a done deal. About fucking time, maybe now we can talk about bike again. Instead of how shite it's become lately.

Posted: 08/08/2012 at 09:53

Will be great to see Lorenzo and Rossi going head to head on the same bikes again.Since Rossi left Yamaha Lorenzo has matured into one of the most tactically aware riders in Moto GP and despite his Championship and consistently excellent results has always seemed in the shadow of Stoner and Rossi in the public's eye.
I'd have thought sticking to Tech 3 for another season would have been better for Crutchlow's career unless ducati have something a lot more competitive up their sleeve for next season.

Posted: 08/08/2012 at 10:11

If Ducati had something up their sleeve to make the bike more competitive for next season and they are NOT bringing it forwards. They are even dimmer than I thought.

So that "hacked" twitter account was done by some in the know then?

"Done deal! A well known Italian will definitely be on a blue bike next year, woo hoo!"

or someone who's crystal ball works very well indeed.

Is this new Bikes or all sales?
Don't forget that prices of new Japanese bikes have shot up over the last couple of years,a new 600 Hornet now costs something like £6500 on the road. Not that long ago the kind of bike I'd consider buying new....not at that price, not least with the savage depreciation we're expected to live with these days.Lovely bike but to my mind at least not a 6 Grand + bike.I know it's not the manufacturers fault, the Yen is high and the Japs didn't have the advantage of Gordon Brown's financial expertise to crash their currency but the fact are that even stuff like the Hornet,Bandits,XJ600s etc is now out of my price range at current new prices
.

@anie, it would be new bikes.

Crutchlow would be wise to stay at Tech 3, or even better, take the Gresini Honda seat if possible. Imagine riding the GP12 knowing that any minute the fronts going to fall away from you, even when upright...

Posted: 08/08/2012 at 14:10

totally agree geerno...even when upright, exactly, who the fuck would ride that?

Posted: 08/08/2012 at 14:59

If the reports are to be believed. Dovi, and Nicky Hayden. But we already knew about Nicky.

Posted: 08/08/2012 at 15:14

Dovi? Seriously? I dont think thats a good move for him. But monster bringing Brad Smith up pushes him out I guess. Anyway, i wonder what sponsor rossi will bring. Thats what they'll be working out before the announcement Id say.

Posted: 09/08/2012 at 10:39

Nah, Dovi would be better off at LCR honda or something, theres a lot of lesser riders down that way, and thatd be a decent ride that bike. Remember what stoner did with it?

Posted: 09/08/2012 at 10:41

Bradl's still got another year on the LCR bike though mate. And Dovi's new compulsion to hold teams to ransom, means, in my opinion that he's on his way outta the door at Tech 3. Stamping his little feet and spitting his dummy all the way to Bologna. I used to like Dovi....

Posted: 09/08/2012 at 11:13

Also, it appears that Yamaha have realised the cats outta the bag and will be announcing this tomorrow.

Posted: 09/08/2012 at 11:14

problem with dovi is he's always since the early days been just behind stoner and pedrosa, still is. But still, he remians a leader of that second group, so he deserves a decent ride. But he had to do it at repsol, and didnt, simple, missed the boat, unlike Pedrosa, who will go down as the only rider to always have factory machinery for a long career and never win a championship. Though he may pull one off Creville style if things blow his way. Anyway, look forward to tomorrow then. This is so good, its like bike racing has been saved for me; not that I find it dull at the moment at all, GP is always the championship, clearly the best riders, simple.

Posted: 09/08/2012 at 22:45

Yeah, I'd agree about Dovi. I'm naturally biased about Dani, as I just love his style. I'm still holding out hope he can win a title. But, this could very well be the last year he can do it.

I'd also agree about bike racing being saved. Whilst I'll still watch religiously, it's just not the same without VR up at the front, I'm sure lots will disagree with me, but it just isn't.

Imagine what WSBK will be like...looking forwards to that!!!
