Rossi tests the 2014 YZR-M1

Yamaha attempt to reduce fuel consumption due to 2014 rule changes

VALENTINO Rossi completed 57 laps on his final test day yesterday with a best lap time of 1’31.414, 0.646s behind team-mate Jorge Lorenzo.

Rossi along with Lorenzo tested the new 2014 YZR-M1 where the Factory Yamaha team worked on a set up to reduce fuel consumption due to a 2014 rule change which decreases the allowance of fuel for “factory status riders” in the MotoGP races from 21 to 20 litres.

The Italian spoke after testing yesterday: “We focused on the new bike and it was a little bit more difficult than [Monday]. We worked a lot to try to test some new systems for the fuel consumption and the settings; it has been a good test.

“At the end the performance wasn't fantastic but we made an important job for winter to arrive competitive next year. During this season I wasn't strong enough in braking so this is the target to improve.”

Yamaha Factory Racing will not be taking part in the third day of the test on-track as both riders have completed the testing schedule required by Yamaha.

The next test will be in 2014 where Rossi and Lorenzo will partake in the first official IRTA test of the year in Sepang, Malaysia.
