Rossi speaks out over Lorenzo contract

"I think I don’t deserve this after what I have done for Yamaha"

EIGHT-TIME motorcycle World Champion Valentino Rossi has spoken of his disppointment at Yamaha's decision to extend Jorge Lorenzo's contract.

Rossi has admitted he's not chuffed by the decision, stating that it's unusual for a team to have two major players in the same squad:

“Usually the big manufacturers in the last years have always just one top rider each. In Yamaha, we are two … so this is a different strategy that can bring good results, but also big disaster,” said Rossi, in an exclusive interview at Misano.

“I always try to make a great work for developing the bike, and I usually make the work just for me. But now I am also doing it for my worst enemy,” he said, tongue-in-cheek.

“Sincerely, I think I don’t deserve this after what I have done for Yamaha. But this is the Yamaha choice …

“I have to decide about my future with motorcycles at the beginning of June next year – whether I will continue, whether it will be with Yamaha or if I change …" said Rossi, hinting at a move to F1.

“Before I never thought of going out of Yamaha, but now with this situation with Lorenzo, I have to make a decision,” he said.

And we all know what happened when Rossi got the hump with Honda back in 2003...

well, now we know why Rossi was so high on Edwards and Hayden  as team mates.

I'm not a Lorenzo fan but I am a huge Rossi fan, what Yamaha have got is the ultimate dream team with these two guys and at the end of the day Rossi is not going to be in this sport forever and Yamaha have to think of them selfs by having the best in the world in their team!

Rossi/Lorenzo are in a league of their own and lets face it, Rossi will always be number one rider in any team he wants to ride for!

Valentino should be very proud at what hes done for Yamaha and what Yamaha have done for him.................

So you're at the top of your game and looking to cement your legend status, but your number 1 rival has access to all your data.  Damn right he's pissed off.

Rossi is a wily old stager and a master tactician on and off the track.

Grow up..............yeah okay.

Let's hope this is a repeat of 2003,  as we know what has happened  back then.  I'm would love to him to a third team and repeat he's winning ways, may be, to a Italian bike and team.  This would stop the knockers.

 Works for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a wild thought. Rossi is a great rider. Dont know if anyone disputes that but his record speaks for itself. He will not always be top of the tree and this Lorenzo fella is barking at his heels. These two really push each other.

Now what if Rossi was a kind of mentor to young Lorenzo? What would happen then? Could it be that if this happened when Rossi quits and Lorenzo takes over the winning ways everyone would comment on how he is a great young rider and how Rossi turned him into a winner! Surely that would be more satisfaction (for Rossi)  knowing that Lorenzo's future achievements would be attributed to Rossi.

What do you think?

Read their biographies and they are have to have a strong ego otherwise they wouldn't survive...remember how they bullied pedrosa on track back in his rookie year?

rossi has every right not to want to share his secrets but he can't control yamaha..its interesting they say 'hinting at F1'. Rossi was very quick..3 secs off from schmy's lap time

but i think rossi is more likely to switch to ducati and that for ducati and rossi will be a dream! an italian on an italian bike!

I think Lorenzo does not in any way value Rossi and what he's done.  I think he is very egocentric, and he cannot wait for Rossi to go so he can be #1.  The problem with Lorenzo is he walks around like he has won 8 Championships already.  Rossi has done this, not Lorenzo.  Jorge has a lot to learn, and I am glad Rossi spoke out...go to Ducati and take it to Lorenzo again

Very interesting...

Roosi is pissed off that Yamaha signs a rider very nearly his equal to a long term contract... He must be really looking over his shoulder and thinking that Yamaha is screwing him by signing Ben Spies to a contract that puts him in MotoGP in '011... admittedly with the Tech 3 team in his first year...

In the midst of all the problems of DORNA getting the minmum seventeen riders on field... we have the possibility of seeing some of the very best racing ever. What with Rossi and Lorenzo on the Yamahas, Pedros and Dovizioso on the factory Hondas and De Angelis doing well on the satelite Honda team. If Stoner returns to form on the Ducati... and throw in Spies on the Tech 3 Yam (you know he will get good stuff from the factory to work with.) and you just have the makings of some GREAT racing!!

Interesting comments from the GOAT.

I heard there is a wall between the garages of Rossi and Lorenzo.  Does Rossi still share all of his data with Lorenzo?  That seems odd.  Can anyone cite a respectable source that answers this question?

Thanks!

Go Rossi!!!

They signed Jorge to a one year deal, no?

This is excellent positioning by the good Doctor.  He is setting the tempo for the conversation by doing this.  This forces Yamaha to react in some way.

I very seriously doubt any critical data is being shared in that garage.  The development issue he pointed out is the key.  Will Yamaha undertake the expense of developing the bike for two different riders.  Possibly if they see Jorge as their future after Rossi.

As for F1, thats a non-starter. F1 is a mess and 3 seconds off of an injured, 3 years retired driver is not "fast" by F1 standards.

I dunno what to make of all this. If IF Suzuki do go the CRT route, I reckon it would be a bit of a shame. But I can understand the reasons,...
