Rossi at Motegi in 2011

VALENTINO Rossi, ahead of this weekend's racec at Moteg, has said his Ducati's potential is 'very high'.

At an action-packed Motegi MotoGP in 2011, Rossi qualified 7th, one behind Marco Simoncelli and just 0.7 seconds off the front row. However, Rossi crashed out on the first lap.

Speaking in a press conference, Rossi said: “I like Motegi a lot. It’s a nice track with good grip, and I have a positive memory of last year. We steadily improved the bike’s setup over the course of the weekend, and I think I could have had a good race if I hadn’t crashed on the first lap.

"At the moment, we’re still missing a couple of tenths with our pace to think of the podium, but at the last two races, we were still able to ride at a good, constant rhythm until the end, which is positive. At Motegi we’ll try to continue working in this direction and to take advantage of the Ducati’s potential, which is usually very high at this track.”

Rossi current lies sixth in the MotoGP championship, 7-points behind Cal Crutchlow.

All I wanna see is a good fight, don't even care if there's 2 of them, the first one for the podium, and then the next one a 4 or 5 bike punchup for 4th.

Last year Motegi ended up very dull, a Pedrosa and J Lo usual gap of 6 or so seconds from memory, the usual caper from them two. But Stoner is back, so there could well be some fighting. J Lo just wants the championship so he'll be happy for a podium which he's guaranteed should he stay on. He does that a bit I reckon once he sees how things are panning out in the race.

All that potential, unrealised.

Great ride from Dani. Really was. And Cal until it ran outta petrol. I think that 800cc ECU needs to be chucked in the bin.

Cheeky punt on Cal to get a couple of race wins next season~???
