Rossi undergoes surgery to remove the metalwork put in place after the Mugello crash in 2010
VALENTINO ROSSI underwent surgery yesterday to remove the metal rod that was inserted in his leg after the Mugello practice crash in 2010.
The crash occurred at Mugello two years ago when Rossi highsided at the top of the fast chicane that makes up turn 13 (sequence below). Immediately it was discovered that the Italian had a displaced and exposed fracture to his right tibia, which ultimately ended his title defence in 2010.
The operation at the Cattolica Cervesi hospital was declared a complete success, and Rossi will be fully fit for the next test at Sepang from 28th Feburary to the 1st March.
Monday also saw Rossi's Ducati team-mate Nicky Hayden go under the knife, to repair damage to his shoulder from a training crash.
