Redding to test Suter Moto1 racer

British Moto2 racer to ride prototype of BMW S1000RR-engined machine at Valencia post season tests

Redding has gone from strength to strength throughout the inaugural Moto2 season

BRITISH MOTO2 SENSATION Scott Redding may get the opportunity to test a prototype of the BMW-engined Moto1 bike at Valencia.

Redding's test has arisen due to links between the Marc VDS Team and the chassis manufacturer Suter. The 17-year-old will lap the Spanish circuit onboard the S1000RR-engined chassis in the post season test.

The Suter machine will be a part of the new production-based rulings for 2012 and the young Briton is likely to play a major part in the team's aspirations to join the premier class grid, having committed to the Belgian team for another two years.

Eskil Suter explained the reasoning behind the powerplant for the Moto1 bike: "We decided for BMW’s S 1000 RR engine, not only because it is very powerful to start with, but also because it is an in-line four-cylinder configuration with dimensions quite similar to the current Moto2 engines. There will be a lot of synergy between the two projects.”

The Suter Moto1 racer has been estimated to cost around €350,000 and €600,000 for one rider with a set of two bikes per season, but engines will not be included in this deal.

I dunno what to make of all this. If IF Suzuki do go the CRT route, I reckon it would be a bit of a shame. But I can understand the reasons,...
