MotoGP boss seeks return to 1000cc motors

Carmelo Ezpeleta wants big-bore engines back in blue riband racing

DORNA MOTOGP boss Carmelo Ezpeleta has said the organisation is considering a return to 1000cc engines in the blue-riband motorcycle class from 2012.

Speaking to Spanish TV broadcaster RTVE, Ezpeleta said he plans to put forward the proposal at this weekend's meeting of the Grand Prix Commission at Valencia. When asked why it would take until 2012, Ezpeleta said: "Right now, it is not going to be possible to switch in 2011, because the agreement with the manufacturers means that we could only make that change before the end of the 2011 season if there was unanimous agreement among the manufacturers. But we are thinking about a return to a 1000cc capacity from the start of the 2012 season, and we will start discussing it this weekend."

Last month, reigning MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi launched a scathing attack on the 800cc ruling, stating it was the worst thing to happen to Grand Prix racing in the last 15 years. Read the full story here.

We'd certainly welcome a return to 1000cc racing, preferably with minimal electronic trickery. After all, everyone likes a powerslider, don't they?

definately the way to go.

6 engines will mean factories will need to detune them to last the distance.

Detune means to slow down, so to keep the speed up, increase the capacity.

get rid of traction control, launch control and computer controlled fuel consumption, then lets go racing again
