Jorge Lorenzo won his second race on the bounce for the Factory Yamaha squad with a commanding victory at Misano. Lorenzo got the jump on championship-leading pole sitter Marc Marquez and never looked back, crossing the line with a comfortable buffer of over three seconds.
20-year-old MotoGP sensation Marquez dropped back off the line to third behind team-mate Dani Pedrosa, and in an over-exuberant attempt to re-pass early on dropped back behind the Yamaha of Valentino Rossi. Despite being given this podium opportunity, there was little the nine-time world champion could do to hold back the young pretender, and Marquez was soon back through.
The Respsol Honda pair had yet another close battle, and once again Pedrosa was bested by his young team-mate. While Lorenzo’s win was impressive, he still only closes in on championship leader Marquez by five points.
The top order spread out over the finish line, with Pedrosa third and Rossi a long way back in fourth. Stefan Bradl made a late move on Cal Crutchlow for fifth.
