QUESTIONS surround the future of Valentino Rossi and Ducati with some rumours pointing towards the Italian returning to Yamaha, a move that former team-mate Jorge Lorenzo has said he would welcome.

One of the key reasons behind Rossi's switch to Ducati - despite stating his desire to end his career at Yamaha - was the decision to retain Lorenzo in the factory team, as the Spaniard was winning on the YZR-M1 he crafted.

But during the first round at Qatar speculation spread from a report in the Italian media that Rossi would be leaving Ducati to rejoin Yamaha, in his own satellite team with sponsorship from Coca Cola. A wild rumour for two reasons: he has a multi-million pound deal with Monster Energy and Yamaha have said they are at their limit with four M1s on the grid.

Lorenzo, as quoted on Motorsport-Magazin, commented on the rumours: "I wouldn't mind at all. I work for Yamaha, and if there was another fast rider on the machine, we could improve our overall chances of success."

Responding to Lorenzo, and trying to calm the rumour-mill, Rossi said: “I’m very grateful to Lorenzo and in this difficult moment he’s the only rider who still respects me and I appreciate it, but it’s still too early to talk about next season, we still have to make the Ducati work, that is our goal.”

Yamaha can save money here as well. Lorenzo sole factory rider. Rossi full factory machine, own sponsership and funding for bike. Crutchlow and Smith at tech 3. Spies back to world superbikes to regain title, Dovi to Ducati on multiyear deal.I think there has been other articles suggesting some discord at Yamaha, so wonder if Spoes face doesn,t fit anymore.

Thats a sad statement from Rossi "he’s the only rider who still respects me and I appreciate it" I really hope he gets another chance to be on a competitive bike so he can prove he really is the G.O.A.T! And as for the Ducati and Rossi aren't competitive then I don't think they will be for the rest of the season!

The guy clearly just doesn't get on that ducati,it might be a dog of a bike or it might be his style but not hes not the only one who can't seem to work with it.

For everyone who says he's past it and hes lost it, all i can say is nothing was heading south until he got on that ducati. He was comming back strong from his broken leg on the yamaha so the sooner he gets back on a yamaha or even a honda the better.

Of course he wouldn't mind him back, it would prove who is currently the better rider when they are on similar machines and that would be Lorenzo.
However, we'll have to wait until both their carreers are over to see who was the best overall and at the moment that's Vale.

All good except the Itailian media will bury him if the Ducati does not work with him on it. Ducati will have nowhere to go to get a competitive bike. Will Audi make it compoetitive.......nope.
The size and longevity of Rossi's pay cheque post MotoGP is dependent on the Italian press. Why did Fiat sponsor Rossi on the M1?
Can anyone remember how much coverage here was when he got on the Ducati, run all of that as negative press and *10.
As for Lorenzo being media savy, reckon he is simply speaking his mind as a competitive person wanting to beat THE rider on the same bike. A chance he has not had thus far.

Strange that Rossi and his texan team mate finished 9&10 ,does this mean that"s all the Duke is capable of,several seconds of the pace.According to Adam Child and John Barton MCN 25/04 /2012 the new Panigale is the most Awsome thing to come from Ducati ever ,so chip it, tune it,trick it,tweak it, cover it in stickers from all the relevant sponsors and finally put a NUMBA 46 on it and for fucks sake give one to Rossi!!! In the early stages of the race i thought i heard Steve and the hairy one saying that Nicki was holding back a couple of guys,was he waiting for his mate to catch up? Contradiction in terms "military intelligence" Council workman,Rossi Ducati,He has no confidence in the bike and I for one would never push the limits on a bike i had no trust in ..Hey no offence intended to our Brave Warriors in foreign parts fighting someone else s war..

Interesting that Rossi says no other riders respect him. They're a competitive lot I'm sure and that would have more to do with it than reality. Stoner never did respect him. Interviewed when at LCR honda they asked him what he has learned from watching Rossi to which he replied, nothing, he's mad on the brakes, but that's about it - pointing out that they're just different riders, rather than he thinks he's shit, but still, you get the point.
