Lorenzo tests GP2 race car

Lorenzo drives F1 feeder series car at Valencia

FORMER MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo sampled a GP2 race car in a test at Valencia yesterday.

Lorenzo was invited to drive the car after the owner of the Addax team, Alejandro Agag, arranged the test after speaking with the Spaniard's manager. Agag wanted to see what the Factory Yamaha rider was capable of in that type of racing car.

After lapping the Valencia circuit Lorenzo - who has won endurance races in a Seat Leon Supercup car - relished the test saying, "A car carrying more than 600 horsepower is a unique experience."

Lorenzo isn't the first rider to experience open-wheel race cars. Valentino Rossi has tested the Ferrari F1 car on numerous occasions and of course there is the legend of John Surtees, who is the only person to win Grand Prix championships on two and then four wheels.

The GP2 championship is a feeder series for Formula One and features a Dallara chassis powered by a 600bhp 4-litre V8 Renault engine. It was formed in 2005 and has Lewis Hamilton as one of the series graduates.
