Lorenzo never really 'knew' Rossi

AFTER spending three years together as teammates in the Fiat Yamaha team Jorge Lorenzo has admitted that he never really got to know the real Valentino Rossi.

"On the camera he is the nicest guy, but I have no idea how he is away from it. In the three years that we were teammates, I never got to know him." said Lorenzo in an interview with the Italian daily, Corriere della Sera.

The reigning champion currently shares the Factory Yamaha pits with Ben Spies, who Lorenzo thinks they share a closer relationship than with Rossi in the previous years. The Spaniard mentioned that they are talking more and sending messages amongst one another. However, the current Yamaha teammates are still separated by 'the Wall'.

Spies like Lorenzo has an experience of partnering mentally tough riders, as part of the Yoshimura Suzuki team in the AMA series he spent time with Mat Mladin, over-coming the veteran's 'mind-games' to overthrow his dominance and winning three straight championships.

Rossi has been known to be closed off from the public with a well-guarded private life away from the track and the cameras.

Hans, be quiet please, you are embarrasing yourself with these kind of statements. Yes Vale and his team developed the bike, but it's got sod all to do with wether Jorge got to know his team mate.

Agreed Pagik.

Why must people worship at the feet of everything Valentino is.

Sure he is an Extreeeemely gifted racer.

But he is also a master manipulator. Everything he does in the media is for his own benefit.

Please don't get me wrong. I am a massive Vale fan, but I think this total god like worship and bad mouthing of all others for anything and everything is getting well out of hand.

Yeah I must agree.  Lorenzo celebration antics are quite reminiscent of Vales...  The dude could be a bit more original!

He should be glad he has a competitive bike and not the M1 Biaggi left Vale!

I don't know about things "getting well out of hand". Its the internet... abit over dramatic there Pagik lol.

Im just going on what i saw on tv but it seemed like neither jorge or valentino made much effort to get to know each other. Takes two to tango.

I bet deep down jorge wants to be like rossi, hense the ALMOST copycat celebrations. But you'll never hear him utter anything remotely admitting that mind.

I quite like lorenzo. But because him and rossi seem to be alike they are never going to get on. too many big egos.

P.S. i still wanna see rossi kick lorenzos arse on the track.... just cos.

Why would Rossi want to get to know Lorenzo? Rossi has a personality, Lorenzo doesn't, so why bother. The copy cat celebrations must make Rossi's stomach churn - as it does mine. Lorernzo showed us his up-tight nature the other day in the interview with him and Sideshow Bob where the two went at it. Sideshow obviously has a personality too, Lorenzo, zip. Just face it, the guy's a dick.

Mobus, you are right, apologies. And Yeah, please lets see Vale kick his ass
