Lorenzo loses digit in Phillip Island crash

...but successful operation puts it back in place

JORGE Lorenzo lost the 'ring finger' on his left hand during a crash in warm-up at Phillip Island.

Lorenzo got into a tank slapper and caught his hand between the bars and frame when falling from the bike, the crash tore the end of his finger off. Lorenzo, clearly in pain took off his glove and threw it to the ground, unaware it contained the end of his finger.

Lorenzo was then flown to hospital where he underwent three hours of surgery where his fingertip was reattached. The recovery time for such an operation is fairly long in the world of racing, meaning Lorenzo will miss the Malaysian race at Sepang. A decision on the Valencia race will be made once Lorenzo returns to Barcelona.
