Championship leader sits amongst journos to hear explanations from race officials
MOTOGP Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo was the only premier class rider to attend the press conference at last weekend's Misano GP surrounding the death of Shoya Tomizawa, it has been revealed.
Lorenzo, still wearing his race leathers from competing earlier in the day, attended the late afternoon conference, sitting amongst journalists, in order to hear first-hand from race officials the events leading up to Tomizawa's death and why the race was not immediately stopped.
A popular paddock figure, Tomizawa was killed at last weekend's Misano Moto2 Grand Prix, when he fell from his machine and was subsequently hit by two other motorcycles at high speed. Race officials have been criticised for not red-flagging the race. Instead, an unconscious Tomizawa was bundled onto a stretcher and then dropped by a stretcher-bearer as he was carried away from the crash scene.
Lorenzo, visibly upset by the tragic news, listened intently to the details of the crash and the explanations given by officials.
