DUCATI MAN Nicky Hayden has spoken out after his 170mph clash with Alex de Angelis at Estoril.

De Angelis was already in Hayden's bad books after he punted off the American, along with fellow countryman Colin Edwards, at the first corner at Misano just a few weeks ago.

But unlike the Misano prang, which happened at around 60mph, this latest incident was at close to top speed, when an inattentive de Angelis ran into the back of Hayden on the main straight.

“The data shows I was doing 170mph at the time,” said a bemused Hayden, who counted himself lucky not to have crashed.

“They looked at the video afterwards, and it seems he was looking at his pit board while he was drafting me,” he said.

“I don’t understand how it happened. But there’s a lot of things I don’t understand about that guy.”
