Expect war over 1000cc engine rule

WSB boss speaks out over return to litre bikes in MotoGP

Now that's real entertainment

MUSCLES ARE being flexed between the two biggest motorcycle racing championships in the world, sparked by the talk MotoGP may be considering going back to 1000cc engines.

Earlier this month, Visordown reported the news MotoGP big-shot Carmelo Ezpeleta was seeking a return to 1000cc engines in the blue riband racing class. Read the story here.

WSB boss Paolo Flammini doesn't like the proposal and has been talking to an Italian journalist on the Italian website GPOne.com about the idea. Judging by his tone, Flammini doesn't sound like he's about to back down anytime soon:

He said: "I will continue to repeat my earlier point of view. We have had assurances from the President of the FIM, Vito Ippolito, that these new rules would not be approved. So far, he has been true to his word, and I hope that this will continue to be the same in the future.

"We are ready to take whatever action is necessary to defend the contract we have with the FIM, which, let us not forget, also covers the 600cc class based on production bikes."

Sounds like an impending court scrap's in the offing.

evil Ken evil yep

whats he so worried about ?

motogp was 990 before...wsbk and motogp have the own fan bases loyal to their respective championships.

if he dont like it ..then they should make motogp 1100 cc :O)

I like bike racing - don't matter what the engine size is....

and besides - moto gp makes more sense when the development can be fed back into roads bikes

Most everyone  disliked the change to 800cc gpBikes  fans and riders alike .

The tire burning big bore engined bikes  had more of an entertainment value and more rider participation . And after all the fans pay the bills and MotoGP is still  entertainment .

Flamminni  has  sole rights to production MOTORCYCLES such as  a ZX10 R1 GSXR ect..... MotoGP bikes would be allowed to use prototype engines AND production based engines .  In all actuallity not much would actually be used .

With Flamminnis rules  then Rossis bike couldnt use ANY stock part what so ever... So it would be cheating if Rossi used a  Yamaha R1 seat? lol

Let's just go back to 500cc two-strokes

I think he is more worried about the comment that Espeleta made about beefing up the MotoGP grid with 1000cc production based engines in 2010 - 2011 not prototype engines.

Go back to 990cc but don't race 800cc against 1000cc production bikes.

990c/1000cc won't make any difference as long as traction control is in place. We'll never see tire-smoking slides on acceleration again as long as that's allowed.

the problem is that before, 990 engines were explicitly not production based, now theyre trying to build production derived 1000cc engines. This is a marketing point, because then you would have manufacturers saying that x or y in a production bike is from MotoGP,  like the R1 and Fireblade would be marketed as through MotoGP, rather than WSBK. It is a major point, because, truth be told, if the rules were like that in the beginning, and Grand Prix was allowed to build production based engines in a prototype chassis, then no one would have ever bothered with setting up WSBK.

They should just have a completely open class and let people race what the fuck they want. That would be fun.

Engine capacity is not the problem it's the electronics!!! it doesn't matter what size they change to, they will run into the same problem's... factory teams will always beat sat. teams...Honda and now Yamaha/Ducati will beat Suzi and the like always.. Stop talking change for change sake... the top teams only want it because they have run out of foreseeable improvements and the sat.teams are catching up.Will be very interesting to see "who sits on what side of the fence"on this one..

I dunno what to make of all this. If IF Suzuki do go the CRT route, I reckon it would be a bit of a shame. But I can understand the reasons,...
