TONI Elias will substitute for the injured Hector Barbera as he makes a comeback to the MotoGP class with the Pramac Ducati team at Laguna Seca.

Barbera will miss this Sunday's United States Grand Prix after breaking his left leg in a training accident. The 25-year-old Spaniard underwent surgery on Sunday.

Fellow Spaniard Elias will take his place at Laguna, the former Moto2 champion rode for the Pramac team back in 2008, with a best finish of second at Brno.

Up until last week Elias had been riding for the Aspar team in a return to the Moto2, but after struggling with the Suter chassis, they mutually parted company.
