MOVING to the Forward Racing Claiming Rule Team for 2012 Colin Edwards has confirmed that he will ride the Suter-BMW machine next season.

Speculation suggested that Edwards would continue his long standing association with Yamaha when he signed to ride a production-based prototype. Expectations had the Texan competing on board an R1-engined bike with the chassis built by Tech 3 and Guy Coulon.

Instead Forward Racing will use the Suter-BMW collaboration that has so far been tested by Mika Kallio. At Mugello the Finnish rider lapped - a worringly - six seconds off the pace but a further test around Brno saw improvement in the gap, the Moto2 rider was 3.9 seconds off Stoner's 1000cc time at the Italian track.

Speaking in the press conference ahead of the Sepang race, Edwards said: “It’s a BMW/Suter which is what I signed for in the beginning, and I’m happy to be working with those guys. We’ll have to go out there and work and test. It’s probably not going to be competitive in the first race, maybe not in the last race, but we’ll work extremely hard to build it.”

Currently ninth in the standings the popular veteran admitted that the 'new adventure' would be a lot of work but was ultimately a supporter of the new CRT initiative, "Our sport has a dream and a vision, everybody wants to see closer, competitive racing in MotoGP like it is in Moto2… Somebody has to start it.”
