Ducati appoints new MotoGP manager

Vittorio Guareschi to work alongside Stoner and Hayden

Vittorio Guareschi has been instrumental in the development of the Desmosedici racer

DUCATI IS set to appoint its veteran test rider Vittorio Guareschi to the role of MotoGP team manager.

Guareschi, who was a podium finisher in World Superbikes before joining Ducati as tester in 2001, will now take a more hands-on role in the garage than previously.

"I'm going to fill a void, in the sense that a team manager role hasn't existed in Team Ducati before," the Italian told Motosprint.

"I will be the link between the riders and [technical director] Filippo Preziosi. I will be close to the riders, I'll go on the track to see what happens and I will be an advisor to them. Finally, I will also manage the work in the garage."

Guareschi said that he intends to remain in his role as test rider, at least for the time being. The decision has been welcomed by 2007 World Champion Casey Stoner.

"I have been the tester of this bike [the 800cc Desmosedici] since the beginning, so I know it perfectly," he added.

"In this regard, I can really give the riders a hand. This is why Casey wants me to continue testing too. I don't think I will do it for much longer though. I'm 38, so I will have to quit in a couple of years time."

"I'm going to fill a void, in the sense that a team manager role hasn't existed in Team Ducati before," says Vito,  I sense Livio Suppo might have summat to say about this were he not busy on Facebook changing his title to " Ducati MotoGP Project Director ".

What has Livio done wrong to be dumped? He's created a half decent team that is better than all the other teams except Fiat Yamaha usually. His team have won a hatful of races & a dominant world championship and are consistently competitive apart from their team mate and they may well wipe the floor next season now that Casey is " stoked ". I'm liking Adriana's new look too. It's all a bit strange if you ask me.

R1 loon

Not really, Livio was allegedly "entertaining" Adriana for a while, which hasn't gone down too well with hubby.

If you believe the rumours that is

scatterbrained

From what I've been able to put together from around the net, as well as what was said during the live feed from MotoGp (between the 250 and MotoGp races) is that Ducati want to bring Rossi into the fold for 2011.

Rossi passed over Ducati when he went to Yamaha because his and Suppos ideas on how a team should work didn't gel. Burgess went so far as to say that Suppo believes in building a bike that is taylored to one rider and to hell with the others, while Burgess/Rossi want to develop a bike that can be ridden by anyone, i.e. a functional bike vs a taylored for one bike.

Whether or not Rossi will go to Ducati in 2011 is still up in the air, as his attitude towards yamaha has settled down a bit, but it is telling that when all this was going on at Ducati Rossi was saying "I'll be riding Yamaha thru 2010" when asked about a switch to Ducati. Sounds like a bit of press avoidance to me.
