Dovizioso issues Yamaha ultimatum

Italian rider threatens to quit MotoGP for World Superbikes if he doesn't get a factory Yamaha

TECH 3'S Andrea Dovizioso has made it clear that he wants to be in the factory Yamaha team next year, but admits that he is looking at the WSB championship as an alternative if he doesn't get the ride.

The Italian has taken four podiums in the last five places and currently sits fourth in the championship, the second best Yamaha rider behind the championship leader, Jorge Lorenzo.

Dovizioso told Motosprint: "Yamaha hasn't decided, it's buying time. I've already understood that meritocracy doesn't count so, despite my results, I already know that it's possible I may never have the factory bike.

"But I have alternatives - other teams and other makes - and I'm also considering something very different."

He added that his objective was to get back on works machinery in MotoGP, as he will gain what he is lacking on satellite equipment and fight for the title, but WSB would be a possibility if Yamaha decide to continue with Ben Spies, "If I don't get that, then I might as well go for different experiences," added Dovizioso.

Wah wah wah...

Spoken like a real professional. If the factory gear will make the difference and help Dovi fight for the title, why did he only win one race during his 2 years on a factory Honda?

So, he's pissed off Honda, and now Yamaha. Is he moving to WSB because no one will take him?... Just a thought.

I'd be amazed if anyone takes him in WSBK after this little rant. as I said, I'm puzzled as to why Dovi seems to want to hold teams to ransom...has a touch of the #3 about it all this. There's enough petulant Italians in bike racing. I've usually liked Dovi, but he's turning into a real spoiled child of late. Still, keep burning them bridges son, it'll give you something else to complain about in a year or so...

Let him burn away. All the more chance for Cal to be on a yamaha next year.

Good point, well made.

Hopefully Yamaha suggest he join their works WSBK team :-D

i agree, dovi is a great consistant rider but when did he last win a race? and he has had a good run on factory machinery.....

if it wasn't for the petulant italians motogp would be dead by now. Or very boring anyway.
I would like to see what Tryumph can do...

He deserves a factory yamaha.....at least he'd put it to better use than spies!

As for not winning on the honda, it was his first few years in GP, maybe the honda didn't suit him? He was also the 3rd rider in what honda only wanted to be a 2 rider team, maybe they didnt give him the same support as the other guys because he held them to the contract?.......

As for Pedrosa, he only wins an occasional race, why is he still on a factory honda?!

Hugh - Spies claimed a 2nd place on a satellite bike which Dovi hasn't. In my opinion Dovi's podiums this year have been through taking advantage of crashes rather than through sheer skill.

Spies has only been underperforming this season so far. I think it is wayyyy too early to write him off. And this is his 3rd year in GP ever with no 125, 250 or previous experience. Dovi has had the advantage of all this, Spies hasn’t. Plus when Spies is always speaking well of Yamaha, is a good spokesperson, has a large USA fanbase and is complementary of the others racers, while Dovi brags about his performance, holds teams to ransom and offers ultimatums, I know who I would rather work with given the choice. (Can you tell that I’m a Spies fan? Bet you can’t, I hid it so well…)

Why is the Spaniard Pedrosa on the Spanish backed Repsol team in a Spanish run race series? I'll let you make your own decisions ;)

"Just nine races into the 2012 MotoGP season and new Tech 3 signing Andrea Dovizioso has already scored twice as many podiums in a season than any other rider in the team's history."

i think that speaks volumes ...

and like ive said elsewhere...

when you have the best performing prototype and youre the worst performing prototype...there are only so many excuses you can give.
