Dorna seek five-year commitment from Norton

MotoGP organiser seeks pledge from British manufacturer after several teams fail to stick in premier class racing

NORTON'S PLANS to join the MotoGP grid from 2012 might not even make it off the drawing board if the British manufacturer cannot agree to a five-year commitment to the premier class racing series.

Championship organiser Dorna is demanding the terms after a string of factory and private entrants promised to join the series but failed to complete the deal after a few races or before even starting.

MuZ, minibike manufacturer Blata, Motoczysz, KTM, Drysdale, FB Corse, Inmotech and Ilmor have all either entered or promised to enter the MotoGP arena but have failed to go the distance.

Let's hope Norton's in a financial position to agree to such a lengthy commitment.

Dwindling grid sizes and Dorna are piling the pressure on the manufacturers to sign up to such a lengthy period? Sack Dorna! It would be great to see another body start a development class of racing.

In fairness it is worth noting that Motoczysz did have a bike ready for entry and had even signed riders after a testing schedule but then DORNA announced a switch to 800cc. The Motoczysz bike has a 990cc engine

Given the limited budget they had at the time the company decided that if they developed an 800cc version of their counter revolving engine they would not have funds available to be competative. They recently announced however that a newer more developed version of their bike would be seeking an entry into WSB as soon as they had sold enough machines to qualify for homogolation

huh? 5 years?.... tell Dorna to go Fck themselves unless they are getting some type of superdeal or something.  What deal at this level goes for 5 years, to much can change plus how is this even right with their "New" rules to help increase the grid.

marcus saw

not that the other teams who pulled out generally make their own engines and want no affiliation with Honda.

Too Fast :

It's obvious you know NOTHING about Norton.

I worked there when the Brian Crichton lead R&D team, designed and built the RC588 within 12 months. Which (you may recall) had huge success in both the domestic championship of the time AND the Senior TT.

Don't bet against Stuart Garner bringing in some outside development big-guns, if they do get the nod in MotoGP.

It's no wonder this country demonstrates so little innovation, with people like you shouting out "No way, no how".

I dunno what to make of all this. If IF Suzuki do go the CRT route, I reckon it would be a bit of a shame. But I can understand the reasons,...
