Aprilia shelves its Moto2 project

Aprilia pull out of Moto2 class and won't be supplying any bikes to privateer teams

It's nothing to do with Moto2, but any excuse to run a picture of Aprilia's RS3 Cube

APRILIA HAVE announced that they won't be a part of the Moto2 class in 2010.

The main reason given for the withdrawal is the required use of a Honda-built engine. However, Aprilia have known about this since May 5th and this announcement comes as a shock as its Moto2 chassis is said to be 'almost finished'.

In a statement Aprilia said: "It would be useless and harmful to the image of a large Italian and European motorcycle manufacturer, which has won 43 world titles in road racing and off road competition, to take part in a competition which relies on engine technology by a rival constructor."

So there you have it, Mapfre Aspar and Speedup Aprilia will have to find new cuppliers, while Aprilia are rumoured to be taking their cash and pumping it into World Superbikes, with a second team rumoured to be on the cards.

Who can blame Aprilia?

The concept of Moto2 is interesting, but Doma's idea they can restriction to one make of motor, hard to understand. Like Aprilia it is impossible for the other Bike manufactures to be associated with the sport and Moto2 on certain tracks will out pace the GP1 slower riders.

Doma have lost the plot and to focused on TV coverage and the assumed money, rather than the sport.

This is all good news for BSB and WSB!

Moto GP, thanks to Doma has lost the plot!

No British rider in Moto GP why even bother to watch -it!

LOL!

Moto2 - *yawn*   All the exitement of a bunch of hornets buzzing around the track.

Why bother with a new class, we can watch one make series anytime we want, aka, super duke cup, speed triple cup etc.

Frankiesan

Rather negative their guys wouldn't ya say?

250's have always produced close tight racing, Dorna wished to update this class to move with the times (since 2 stroke is a dying out) but also reduce the costs of development to open up the class to other companies. (since they don't have to dev an engine too)

Smart move in my opinion but they really should've let companies use engines from a selection of manufacturers.
