BEFORE the 2012 racing season has even begun Anthony West has already been lined up for a couple of different rides but now the Australian is moving on to his third team; replacing Damien Cudlin in the QMMF squad in Moto2.
The unexpected turn of events comes after the QMMF team decided to drop West’s fellow countryman, Cudlin after he was unable to put in competitive laptimes during testing and struggled with the Moriwaki machine, finishing 31st out of 33 riders in the final Jerez test. His female team-mate, Elena Rosell ended up in last.
West, who raced in the Moto2 category for MZ over the past two seasons, was due to return to the MotoGP class this season but lost his ride with the Speed Master CRT team after a lack of funds.
Shifting his intentions to domestic series, he was linked to Swan Yamaha in British Superbikes. However, the Australian lost the seat to Noriyuki Haga, but was able to find an alternative ride for the Supersonic BMW outfit.
"It's great to be back in Grand Prix racing, with a team that operates on such a highly professional level and with the support of Moriwaki, one of the most experienced and highly regarded manufacturers," said the Australian.
"We haven't had the chance to go through the pre-season preparations together, so we can't expect miracles at the team's home Grand Prix of Qatar next week. But I'm really excited about this opportunity and I'll push to the maximum to get the best possible result.
"My goal is and always has been Grand Prix Racing. I am sorry to turn my back on the BMW Supersonic Team, who gave me the chance to continue my career. At the same time, I am happy they understand my decision and I wish them all the best for this season."
Cudlin still has a ride with the BMW Motorrad France Thevent team in the World Endurance championship to fall back on, whereas BMW Supersonic will continue with Patric Muff for the season opener at Brands Hatch next weekend.
