Cardion AB Motoracing to continue with Ducati in 2012 and possibly 2013
CURRENTLY the top rookie of 2011 Karel Abraham has secured a further deal with Ducati to continue in MotoGP in 2012.
Now six races into Abraham's and the Cardion AB Motoracing team's debut season in the premier class they have revealed, in a specially arranged conference attended by team principal Karel Abraham Snr and rider Abraham Jnr as well as Ducati MotoGP Project Director Alessandro Cicognani, that they will continue to work together for a second campaign in 2012 with an option to extend the partnership into 2013.
The Czech MotoGP rookie told MotoGP.com: “I’m definitely very satisfied, there are some things in the contract we changed in comparison to this year which I’m very happy about. I think all these things will help me progress through MotoGP and have good results this year and next year too.”
“I’m looking forward, I don’t know if we will have the opportunity to try the GP 11.1, but I’m really looking forward to trying the 2012 Ducati. Aside from the change in engine power there will also be some other things, they’ve worked on the chassis and the whole bike so there will be several things changed compared to this year. I don’t see the differences yet because I don’t know all the technical differences and data at the moment. Hopefully I’ll get that information soon.” said Abraham on the prospect of next year's bike.
The 21-year-old commented on the input of Valentino Rossi into the development of the GP12, “I think it is a very big advantage for us because Valentino has so much experience, he has built up many bikes already so I think he can do a very good job for us.”
Two seventh-places at Jerez and Silverstone have been the best finishes for Abraham in his debut season, his father and team-owner added: “Permanent top ten is perfect, he is very young at 21 and everything is new for the team. Twice he has been lucky because it has rained, but also he was very good, and scoring two top-seven results has been perfect so far for our team.”
Cicognani said: “We're pleased to have renewed our agreement with Cardion AB Motoracing for next year, and in particular we're very happy to share with the team the path of improvement that Karel is following in MotoGP. Karel is a young rider in his rookie MotoGP season, but he's gaining experience and demonstrating his talent race by race.”
