Honda's new RC213V

DON’T be fooled by the fact it looks near-identical to the existing Honda GP machine – this 2014-spec RC213V is said to be almost entirely new.

While the main bodywork change is a new ‘smiley’ face for the RC-V, with a single upturned mouth instead of the twin intakes of the existing bikes (and a notable contrast to the new Suzuki’s sad-looking expression), underneath all that carbon fibre the chassis and engine have changed significantly.

At a glance it looks like the frame has been reshaped around the swingarm pivot, while the fuel tank is one litre smaller to fit the new 20-litre capacity limit that will be introduced next year.

That new fuel limit also explains why the engine will have been altered, perhaps quite significantly, as it will have to be even more efficient if it’s to meet the new rules without a reduction in performance.

While new, the parts on the 2014 bike are interchangeable with the existing machine’s, so should Pedrosa or Marquez prefer the new chassis, for instance, they could adopt it immediately instead of waiting for next year.

Dear Bologna,

See, THIS is how one develops a racing motorcycle. Up, and ready to go with 9 odd months to spare. And before anyone starts, yes, I'm fully aware that Ducati don't have anywhere NEAR the money HRC do.

That thing is MINT! They always look great with their bare unpainted carbon fibre and shiny aluminium. I'll take two of them please. They could probably afford to give me that one actually. Dani will do a few laps to evaluate it. Then Big Red will likely make a whole new for him to use at the next round of testing after chucking that one in the crusher. JUST GIVE IT TO ME!

it looks BEAUTIFUL like that!

Stunning. However, if my wallet was fat enough, I think I'd still take an rc211v...

HRC have managed to both increase power and fuel efficiency at the same time with this bike. They have wizards disguised as engineers in that factory.

Yeah love the bare colour.

I cant wait to see the real mccoy on the race track. The street version should be awesome as well. Honda does it again. But remember they have their own bank. So funds...Cool.
