Rob Mac Racing out of BSB for 2012

Yamaha team taking a sabbatical after a couple of difficult seasons in British Superbikes

ROB MAC RACING have announced that they will take a sabbatical from the British Superbike championship in 2012 to focus on a competitive return in the future.

The decision comes after a difficult 2011 season that started with Loris Baz and James Westmoreland, but after multiple line-up changes the Yamaha outfit ended the year with Alex Lowes and Tommy Bridewell, both of whom were unable to make any impression.

Long-term sponsors, Motorpoint and other supporting parnters had agreed to continue the sponsorship of the team, but Rob McElnea made the decision to pull the team due to a 'couple of difficult seasons and a lack of available experienced riders to deliver results'.

Team boss, Rob McElnea said: “It has been a tough decision but the right one after a difficult season, where it was  frustrating to be unable to secure a good return for our backers in terms of results. We all go to racing to be part of a show and I want to ensure our team performs not only for the fans, but also for our sponsors too.

“I felt the options available to us would mean another tough season with difficult challenges so, I feel it is the best decision to re-evaluate our position during our 2012 sabbatical and hopefully come up with a storming proposal for the future. Motorpoint have been great supporters and are understanding of my decision.

“I want to thank all my team and partners for their commitment over the last 20 years!”

Sad news, Rob Mac seems to divide opinion with fans, i rate him however, he's run race winning teams for most of his 20 years as a team owner/boss.
Who can forget the Hislop/MacKenzie days, Whitham before that ...

I'm one of the fans that devides opinion then, this smacks a little of "taking my ball home with me". Surely the point is to bring through new talent...not leave because a couple of years have been a bit lean in the results department.

I do agree to a degree Pagik but i guess he needs one rider with experience and a newbie so they get good results while the young rider learns his trade.
He does seem to genuinely worry about the return for his sponsors, remember his Boost and Fast Orange days ... hope he comes back in 2013 with a strong line up although i can't see it now.

Anybody that knows Rob Mac would not say say to his face he's taking his ball away have you seen big Rob! he has been a works rider for Honda/Suzuki/and Yamaha, and knows more about racing than anyone I know. So instead of spending loads of other people,s money and his as well for a sport he loves give him a rest and let him regroop, anybody who has seen his set up in the Paddocks just knows he will be back, he deserves a rest, go play some golf Rob and enjoy the break, how you managed all these years god knows we on the fringe know.

I do hope we see him with a team back in the paddock soon :D

I believe in the last two years he changed the line up too often. He should have stuck with Baz and found a funding solution. I believe Baz may have finished in the top six if he had stuck with him.But the whole issue of funding in Bike racing is difficult. It hardley gets a mention in the national press. We need BSB to team up with a national paper to really boost it's profile. Kids like Kyle Ryde should not be struggling for funding.Sites like Visordown and MCN should push even harder to raise bike racings profile.

I dunno what to make of all this. If IF Suzuki do go the CRT route, I reckon it would be a bit of a shame. But I can understand the reasons,...
