Confused.com Kawasaki rider Simon Andrews said he didn't expect to be spraying champagne this weekend at Cadwell Park in the British Superbike Championship.
Andrews’ third place in race two earned an important first podium for the Evesham-based rider and also marked a first for the rapidly improving Colchester-based Kawasaki team. Andrews is still not fully fit from injuries sustained at Mallory Park, after he was punted from his machine in a reckless overtaking manoeuvre by HM Plant Honda rider Josh Brookes.
The team have been hard at work since the last outing at Brands Hatch and have made some important gains in terms of valve train components and cylinder head work. The net benefits have been graphically demonstrated on the track today.

‘It’s all been a bit of a surprise, really. I haven’t so much as ridden a bike for eight weeks and to come back and be this competitive is fantastic. I’m not race fit yet and my wrist is far from 100% so to end up spraying champagne was a bit of a result. We may have been gifted a podium by Camier's exclusion but that's just mystic forces at work. He was nowhere at Mallory and was gifted my win when I got punted out at the hairpin, so it evens out today.’
