Soaring track temperatures knock the usual soft compound for six, leaving riders struggling for grip
FRONT TYRE woes plagued Superbike riders during the BSB round at Brands Hatch with soaring track temperatures sparking problems across the board.
For the Saturday race the track scorched up a full 18 degrees between qualifying and the first race and on Sunday it got as high as 41 degrees.
The track was so hot that the usual soft tyre compound favoured by most riders couldn’t be used at Brands, the riders who did use the soft compound found that the sidewall of the tyre folded under the extreme conditions.
One of the riders most affected was Worx Crescent Suzuki’s Tommy Hill who scored a fourth and a seventh in the sun-kissed Sunday races, he said: “This wasn't the worst day, but it wasn't the best either. We made progress in the first race today and being so close to getting the podium really fired me up for that second race. But right from the start I knew it wasn't to be as I'd lost a load of feeling in the front. I knuckled down and I really didn't want to lose places but it was a very difficult race. Definitely, these are not the results we come racing for."
