TROY CORSER let slip BMW’s plans for the British Superbike Championship whilst being interviewed at Brands Hatch BSB.
The former double World Champion, who has been riding for BMW in WSB this year alongside Ruben Xaus – the pair developing the track version of the S 1000 RR - said that the factory was planning to bring a team into the domestic championship, although he wasn’t sure of the exact timescale.
He said: “I know they want to do it. That’s the plan definitely. I think the S1000RR would be good in this championship too, it’s a tough series to race in, very competitive. We’ve just got the second generation of the bike and things have moved onto the next level with that.
“As for timescale when they will come into the BSB championship I’m not sure, next year might just be a bit too soon at the moment but if it is then for sure it’d be the year after that.”
Combine that with the growing rumour that Aprilia want into BSB with their RSV4 and an official two-man squad and it looks like being a very good time for the home-grown championship indeed.
