BSB: Rutter for the chop at Crescent?

"We have to face it, we're in a position again where we need to find a solution to get us back to the sharp end of the racing" - Jack Valentine, Team Manager

BIG DOUBTS remain over whether Michael Rutter will stay on the Worx Crescent Suzuki much longer after a dismal day at the races at Knockhill.

Strangely, the team claimed that ‘rear-grip issues’ were in effect all weekend and it was those that affected Rutter's progress in the first race; the veteran racer then crashed out of race two whilst in fifth position. Following the poor result Rutter said: "It's been a tough day and I'm very disappointed. Through the lead up to the racing we've shown what's possible: We were front row again, and podiums are clearly there for the taking. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this bike and team.

"In that first race we started OK, I held position in the opening laps but by lap six I could feel the rear tyre performance dropping off badly. Despite being the same tyre we used in practice and qualifying, come the race we weren't getting the same grip. For a while I was able to hold on to sixth, but when the safety car came out, everyone closed on to me. So when we got the green light again I just couldn't go and that was the end of it.

"We went for a harder tyre for the second race and that worked well. We were secure in fifth when on the 20th lap, on the run to the hairpin, I ran in too deep. The rear came up so I couldn't turn, I let the brake off to regain control, but that put me wide and off the circuit. Game over!"

Team Manager Jack Valentine added: “There's not much I can add to what Michael's already said. We're disappointed; we can't deny that. But also we all feel for Michael. Two front row qualifying-performances from three is evidence of his speed. Even today there were times we could feel hopeful. But the results just haven't come. "So, we have to face it, we're in a position again where we need to find a solution to get us back to the sharp end of the racing."

He looked really pee'd off sat in the gravel trap watching the end of the 2nd race. Toseland might be available after his poor showing at the weekend.

Former World Superbike man Tommy Hill will make his return to the British Superbike Championship at Mallory Park aboard the Worx Suzuki as replacement for Sylvain Guintoli.

Hill tested the 2009 GSX-R1000 at Mallory Park today and team boss Jack Valentine was impressed with the youngster's lap-times. It is a one-race deal at the moment, but if Hill impresses, it could be extended.

"I'd firstly like to thank Michael for his efforts since Sylvain's unfortunate injury. Michael did a good job for us, getting two front row starts out of three, while running strong lap times," said Valentine.

"However, we need to convert good qualification into strong race finishes and we believe Tommy has the ability to do this. After completing 45 laps around Mallory Park on the Worx Crescent Suzuki today, he impressed the whole team and on top of his obvious talent, has a good attitude so should fit in well.

"We're still not completely sure when Sylvain will be able to get back on a bike, so we're treating everything on a round by round basis. However, consistency is obviously very important in racing and if Tommy performs how we anticipate, I see no reason why this deal can't be extended to further rounds."

I dunno what to make of all this. If IF Suzuki do go the CRT route, I reckon it would be a bit of a shame. But I can understand the reasons,...
