VIDEO: Yamaha R1 Off-roader

This is what happens when you stick a set of knobblies on a 1000cc sportsbike

Posted: 15 April 2009
by Visordown News

A BIG UP to Visordown member Itchy'n'Scratchy for sending us the link to this rather cool Yamaha YZF-R1 off-roader clip.

Yes, that's right folks, some extrovert has stuck a set of flat bars and a pair of knobblies on a 1000cc sports bike and is now enjoying tearing up the local countryside.

Good work, nutty bloke!

Crazy, theres no way he'll use all the power available off road

FJSRiDER.

I think there might be a bit more to that than just 'sticking a set of knobblies on'

start him?????????

i am mearly agreeing with FJS on his astute and wisely percieved comment, regarding the technical changes to the R1 motocrosser

The suspension has most likely been changed too. Theres no way a sportbike suspension can cope with off road riding, as they don't have a lot of travel.

I think it is very cool.

Probably a YZ400 would be a better choice off road - but not as much fun.

From the look of it in the video I'd say its not coping. looks to be bouncing about a lot and going pretty slowly really.

Harty

Wow that's uber cool and given me a few ideas! This other Swedish version has an R 1 with spike studded tyres, pulling wheelies over a frozen lake. Those crazzie Swedes!

The Clang
In my humble opinion, this exercise suffers from having no point.

Yeah, I have to agree, the front is wobbling like a mofo at times and the rider is having to use his legs as extra suspension as the bike under him is having serious trouble coping.

Shock horror, its not as good as a Cr250. ........So fracking what. Looks like he is having more fun than posting messages about how the suspension isn't working correctly on an internet forum.

But not as much fun as he would be having if the suspension was working and he could open the throttle a little.
