Check out this video of US cops in action using their usual subtle techniques and finesse

CHECK out this footage from an American State Trooper's police car that's been put on YouTube.

We wonder whether the head-on-crash-into-the-biker technique is one that could be applied in the UK... better bloody not be!

Fookin hell  , would be interesting to know what he had done. lucky lad though appeared unhurt

Imagine that in this country - they'd read him his rights then give him the phone number to claims direct so he could sue them for doing their job.

Posted: 30/09/2008 at 10:12

Given how aggressive and buck hungry American 'lawyers' are, I wonder if that biker could win a civil case against the trooper.  The police car was weaving  right into the biker's path at an insane closing speed.  I can't see how they could claim either reasonable (i.e. controllable) force or that they had no other option.

All filmed by the "S.C. Department of Public Safety" - what a joke!

Cops didn't check whether the biker was wounded or not, just mangled him to the floor and handcuff him.

Disgusting.

I wonder what "offence" he'd committed which justifies attempted murder?

Oh, and eezimob: "doing their job"? I suppose you didn't notive that they were the department of public SAFETY. Exactly how safe was that takedown?

Sounded like some Good Old Southern Boys on the video

.

That is fucking apaulling!

Then to rag him around ffs!

Posted: 30/09/2008 at 17:35

i just hope the cops over here don't get any ideas...

Different laws, different culture and different approach to catching a criminal. We can;t apply our rules to another country.

For all we know he'd just wiped out a High School with Pa's AK-47

He was really lucky? He could've met my missus in her car coming the other way

That would have really fucked him up

Posted: 30/09/2008 at 19:59

All the racists will be on now telling you how they can in this country

Posted: 30/09/2008 at 20:01

Here we go again..... Of Course the Trooper didn't have to ram him.....the biker could have just stopped when he heard the sirens behind him.  You make the choice and you take your chance.

Don't forget the cops over there have guns as well. The biker is lucky they didn't shoot him when he got up!

Like R1 Loon says (still the best signature pictures!)  different country, different way of doing things.  But I wouldn't want to take any chances.

at the end of the day, he brought it upon himself by running...

...would rather him hit a copper than a random.

Flo

Was he even trying to escape? He wasn't going particularly quick for a sports bike...

Like loon says though, they have diferent standards over there. It looks to me like Sheriff Elmer overcooked it trying to block the road rather than deliberately rammed the guy (poor driver training in US police forces). By the same token, in a country where even schoolkids have access to automatic weapons I can appreciate their pro-active approach to apprehending suspects, even potentially injured ones. Be glad you live in the UK guys, we have good roads and highly trained law enforcement. (Ish....

Shocked... that is all I can say.

I have read the threads so far and can understand your numerous points of view, but I cannot condone some of them.

First and foremost is the preservation of life. Regardless of such criminal activity that was clearly not displayed in this footage. I fail to see any indication of 'highly trained' whatsoever. Many pro-active and safe techniques are practised by the various Police Forces in this country, but never have I ever seen such a blatant disregard for the safety of another road user... running or not. Whether on duty or not people have a duty to other road users and what the oncoming officer did here was criminal - plain and simple. Catching criminals, or suspects... surely criminal is a term defined by a magistrate or jury at High Court, is the remit of the police force - WITHIN BOUNDARIES.

If any and all rules could be discarded under the guise of 'putting them aay' then we are in a very poor shape indeed. Being highly trained ensures that  this happens; I speak from personal experience.

If 'another country and another culture' justifies this kind of recklessly criminal behaviour by 'highly trained' police then I am happy in the knowledge that we place a higher value on life, professionalism and respect than the people in this video.

K_D

In most american states ,if you drive at a police car or police officer, then you are guilty of att murder of a peace officer with a deadly weapon..........and they can and frequently do shoot and kill folks for this. Its usually a good idea to stop if a police car gets in your way.......no joke.

'Running' in america is handled decidely different than in the uk.

If you run you take whats coming, your choice.Like it or dont like it ,its thier way of doing things and  it wont change much anytime soon.

I have seen this vid before from  the start of it showing the reason. but can't remember where I saw it.  (But it's quite recent, April 08 on the camera)

The youth on the bike has made off from a 'robbery' ( don't know any more) and has failed to stop at a number of junctions and for a couple of police cars over about a ten minute 'chase'. He actually kicks one car, and drives over the pavement to avoid the car at one point.

As said above... It's a different law in the good o'l US of A, if you dont stop for them, they stop you!!

He's very lucky he didn't get a round in the back as he was 'fleeing'. Once you have failed to respond to the instruction to stop, you are fleeing a crime, and they will eventually shoot!

And as said, be very pleased our plod are not like that. (yet).

And lets not start the ' unless you are minding your own business on the underground' comments again.

Rags.

At the end of the video, the rider said ran because he had weed in his pocket.

The cop is way out to left field hitting the biker.   This is an awful scene, which does not happen in Canada.  The cops can not block you, or use spike strips, as it endangerous the riders life.. the rider is innocent till proven guilty.  Guilty of wanting to relax with a jay.

irnieracing says that the cops in Canada can't use spike strips for motorcycle tyres as it endangers the rider.......quite right too.     But ther'es nothing to stop them using spike strips at head height though in the USA is there...........?

Seriosly though. I've been involved in many high speed pursuits (as a Police Motorcyclist) and they are not like the Hollywood films.  They are some of the scariest things I ever had to do.

In all the years I did it not once did any of the villains I was chasing have a sign around his neck telling me what 'crime' he had committed or why he was running.  It was my job to try and stop him.

I've got experience both sides as once when I was chasing a stolen car (which turned out to full of stolen computers) I ended up in front of the car, after he'd pulled up the handbrake  and reversed at me etc and he ended up chasing me!  Ramming me off the patrol bike at about 60mph.

I tell you it is easy to sit in judgement sat at your keyboards but when you've got a Ford Sierra up your arse you see life a little differently.  Just doing my job..........give me window cleaning any day.   I'm not after sympathy. When CID phoned my Missus and said ' He's okay but someone tried to kill him" She replied, "That's my job, they'd better join the queue". Thanks love.

Good post but a Waste of Ink foody..you only have to see the 140mph biker thread to see that most of the one post warriors have all been there and done it and can sit in judgement based upon holding a Cat A licence for 6 months...

Good, cause you're not getting any! No-one pretended your job was anything other than what it is before you signed on. Deal with it son. This isn't an invite for the anti-police mob to jump on the bandwagon , like I said before, British police are well trained and professional. Most of us can appreciate that, even when they don't like their attitude or methods in specific cases.

Nice comment from the wife, mind. Sounds like she'd get on just dandy with mine.

Flo,  I had no idea what I was getting into.  I was brought up on 'Dixon of Dock Green' 'Z Cars' and  ' The Adventures of PC Penrose'.

Your comment, 'Deal with it Son' gives you away as a 'Sweeny' Fan !
