Traffistar SR590: super intelligent speed camera

Move over GATSO, Truvelo and SPECS. This new speed camera will become our worst enemy

A SWISS company has produced a speed camera that can monitor over 20 vehicle's individual speeds in live time and record their photos with a state-of-the-art camera.

The TraffiStar SR590 features innovative Robot 3D Tracking technology which can monitor multiple vehicles over multiple lanes; tracking their speed, distance from other vehicles and it can also be programmed to monitor turning restrictions, pedestrian priority, red light running and even overtaking.

What's more, the camera uses virtual trigger lines, so no markings need to be painted on the road.

The Traffistar SR590 super speed camera is being tested in various locations across Geneva in Switzerland. Even though a forward facing camera doesn't affect motorcycles, the Traffistar SR590 can be programmed to work with traffic flowing in both directions.

It's certain to become the most hated thing on our roads if it's introduced in the UK.

Unless we have to start putting number plates on the front of our bikes, I don't see the problem.

In the current financial climate, who's going to pay to put these on the roads?

Posted: 09/08/2010 at 21:16

mobus
they probably cost about as much as china so i wouldn't worry too much.

Yet another way to draw our attention toward the little plastic needle sweeping back and forth and not the red light jumpers, lycra clad two abreast cyclists, suicidal pedestrians, idiots on the phone, left-hand drive lorries and the impromptu off-road courses that they call potholes these days... Thankfully, we're broke!

I wouldn't worry no local authority will have any budget for these :-)

I THINK THERE IS AN OBSESSION WITH SPEED.

THE FACTS ARE THIS , ANYONE WHO KNOWS WHERE THEY ARE , ARNT GOING TO GET CAUGHT , SO WHERE IS THE SAFETY ISSUE . ITS MONEY AND IS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT MONEY .

WE ARE IN AN AGE WHERE CARS AND BIKES CAN GO FASTER , BUT CAN ALSO STOP FASTER .

IN THE AGE OF PROGRESS WE ARE GOING BACKWARDS IN THE TRANSPORT SIDE

BUT HAVE YOU EVER KNOWN THAT THE ONES THAT DO THE MOST SHOUTING ON CAMERAS HAVE A SPECIAL INTREST LIKE THE CHEIF CONSTABLE WHO WAS DONE THREE TIMES FOR SPEEDING AND HAS AN ACTIVE ROLE IN SAFETY PARTNERSHIP MEANING HE GETS PAID .

IF THIS TYPE OF EFFORT WAS SPENT ON CATCHING DRUG DEALERS AND SERIOUS CRIME , OUR COUNTRY WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE .

LOL A TRAFFISTAR BOMB I LIKE IT , BUT IF SOMEONE WAS TO INVENT AN EMP DEVICE AN ELECTO MAGNETIC PULSE GENORATOR . NOW THAT WOULD SERIOUSLY FUCK THEM UP . JUST MAKE SURE YOUR CLEAR OF YOUR BIKE WHEN USING IT LOL.

If was possible to train pidgeons to unload on speed cameras instead of the bike or car you've just cleaned I might just grow to like them (a bit)!

david hurst.... read the article again. second to last sentence - can be used to monitor both lanes in both directions so bikes can be caught lol

burn the fuckers. thing is once 1 of these half million pound cameras gets burnt, no council will dare to purchase them cause that would be like spending £500,000 on a cardboard cutout of hitler and then placing it in the middle of jerusalem. it aint gonna last long.

I think its a wonderful idea. Im fed up of bikers speeding along all the time. Nothing pleasures me more than tootling along on my SV650 to the speed limit. The limit is there for a reason I toast speed cameras with a lovely chilled glass of pinot grigio blush.

Where there's a will, there's a way. This goes for both sides of the argument.

But i have to say, these things are finally getting too clever for their own good.
