Sadly they’re only available in Japan at the moment but we thought we’d show you them because, well, they’re cool.
There’s also one for the SR400, which remains a popular machine in Japan after being discontinued.
Sold under the name ‘Authentic’, the kits consist of replacement body panels that give retro colour schemes to the bikes and can be combined with other accessories for more comprehensive conversions.
Starting with the most expensive and comprehensive, the MT-09’s Authentic kit harks back to bikes like the RD350. It costs the equivalent of £835 in Japan and comprises a new front mudguard, side air scoops, a new fuel tank, radiator side covers, tail side covers and under-headlight panels. You’d need to fork out considerably more to add the gold wheels, auxiliary lights and three-exit exhaust system featured on the bike pictured above.
The SCR950 kit costs the equivalent of £726 and includes a new tank, side covers and ‘Authentic Sports’ stickers.
And the SR400 the kit, which translates to £617, includes a fuel tank, side covers and a tail panel.
All three bikes were previewed earlier this year at the Osaka Motor Show, but have only just been officially added to the Y’s Gear Authentic line-up.
With the UK appetite for custom accessories kits as it is, it seems madness not to also bring them here (at least for the MT-09 and SCR950). There's always hope.
