Will MT-25 be next?

Reports suggest next MT will be based on forthcoming R25

YAMAHA is certain to further expand its MT range with 250cc and 300c parallel-twin models, according to reports on Indian bike websites.

The next MT will be based on the same engine and chassis ‘platform’ as the forthcoming YZF-R25 and YZF-R3, just as the new MT-125, revealed first on Visordown this week, is based on the YZF-R125.

Asian markets will receive the 250cc R25, which is expected to be followed up by an MT-25.

Europe is expected to get a 300c variant, the R3, followed by an MT version of that.

However, it's not clear what the new 300cc MT would be called in Europe, since there is already a Yamaha MT-03, the recently discontinued 660cc single.

Spy shots of a production-ready R25 have recently been leaking all over the net, suggesting the official launch can’t be far off, and should certainly happen this year.

An MT version would be a repeat of the approach Yamaha has taken with the MT-125 and R125.

Yamaha has already shaken up the market with the aggressively priced new MT-07, a 689cc parallel-twin, and MT-09, an 847cc triple.

The MT-07 undercut rivals with a price of £5,199 plus on-the-road charges, while the MT-09 is £6,949.

The UK price of the MT-125 has not yet been confirmed.
