VICTORY has today revealed its newest model, the Octane, which is powered by a 1179.3cc liquid-cooled V-twin.
Victory is calling it 'the modern American muscle bike' because its basic recipe is: a big engine crammed into a lightweight chassis, with no creature comforts.
Putting out a claimed 103hp at 8,000rpm and 73lb/ft at 6,000rpm, Victory says the Octane’s engine is the company’s ‘highest-output engine ever.’
The motor is a production version of the engine used in the Project 156 Pikes Peak concept. Victory says it’s used the same 73.6mm stroke to enable higher rpm and a quick revving engine that feels more like a sportsbike's than an American V-twin's. It’s also got a 60mm electronic throttle body and short gearing for lively acceleration.
The engine acts as a stressed member and is connected to front and rear cast aluminium frame sections. Elsewhere chassis-wise, the front 41mm diameter non-adjustable fork provides 120mm travel while the rear twin-shocks are preload adjustable and give 76mm travel.
According to Victory, the Octane’s ‘sharp steering geometry’ comes courtesy of its 1578mm wheelbase and 32° of available lean angle.
Stopping at the front is handled by a twin-piston caliper and 298mm disc, with the same size disc at the rear, gripped by a single-piston caliper. ABS comes as standard.
You might expect the Octane to retain some of the Project 156’s muscular styling and although it’s not as extreme looking as the racer, it’s still got a brutish, tough and aggressive look about it courtesy of its angular lines and dark colours.
It weighs a claimed 243kg and although there’s no word yet on pricing or UK availability, Victory has published a starting price in Euros – €12,950 with the first hundred customers (including pre-orders) receiving a special engine cover with the Project 156 logo on it.
