Track T800 Diesel goes on sale in the UK

80mpg more torque than a 1200GS

THE DUTCH-MADE Track T800CDi Diesel-engined motorcycle is now for sale in the UK, via importer Ovik Special Vehicles.

The 800cc diesel engine is a Daimler-Benz unit, similar to the one used in the Smart car. Track claim it's capable of between 80 and 100mpg, producing just 45bhp but with 74ftlb of torque - more than a BMW R1200GS.

It's a shaft-drive but doesn't feature convential gears, instead it used continuous variable transmission, much like a twist-and-go maxi-scooter. It'll top out at 100mph and its 19-litre tank gives the T800 a claimed 330-mile range. Its dry weight is 215kg - on par with the competition.

The price? £15,995. That's a lot, but what price exclusivity?

An R1200GS puts out 88ftlb of torque, close to 20% more than this tugboat claims.

At, say, £9k it might interest long distance commuters. As it is, expensive to the point you'll never get your money back and incur a lot of risks (like them going t%%$-up so no parts).

Si Borg...

The R1200GS needs to rev its tits off to put down that amount of torque. TRACK does it to 73lbs ft at 1800 revs! And torque is available throughout the rev range. Moreover.. it aint no tug boat! It thrashes the 1200GS of the mark every time with the GS only putting in an appearance at abou 70mph.

I know. I own one! Get your arse down to TRACK in Dorset - ride the bike - then maybe you'll be qualified... TUG Boat Cap'n!

If I were a farmer I’d buy one... fill it up with agro diesel and avoid paying fuel duty. You’re very unlikely to get pulled for a roadside fuel check on a bike?

If you are one of the lemming followers dont come over. If you are interested in the future come over ;-) We do not produce HP and Bling but drivability and realworld useage.... You will understand one day !

I examined this bike closely at the NEC and believe me I have had BMW GS's from the early days and many other so called Adventure type bikes; still have a TransAlp on the fleet for getting around London.
I can get a "Lazy Lob" looking at one-off billet shafts BMW made for their 900 Dakar bikes years ago, and quality seam welds on trellis frames, breath. I have no connection with this manufacturer or importer, but believe me this is one piece of kit. The power unit is Merc Smart car, suspension WP, and nothing that looks difficult to source, mind you I keep a classic Scott running so don't have those sort of worries. However, will I be buying one? Sadly no, I can't justify the price, but address that and Track have a winner.
Best Wishes and hope you succeed in 2012.

It's a real looker...

Are efficiency and beauty that mutually exclusive?

I'm afraid to say, a massive fail!!!

Who is this bike actually marketed at? Performance..no?, Fashionable adventure bike....No (BMW have that one sewn up thanks to Ewan). Affordable Adventure alternative...not at £16k. So who's going to lay down the £16k for one?

If want a cheap to run commuter could buy the Smart car on which the engine for this is based for £5,500 LESS and that does 80mpg with a tank range of 710 miles, or if I want a bike to beat the traffic then something like a Ninja 250 for £4k

The bike needs to be £6k not £16k. Build it cheap with budget parts sell it in the asia markets and you won't be able to shift them fast enough, but hear in the UK we don't have the market for it. The UK market is either cheap commuter or weekend toy and the T800 is neither.

By the way I live in Dorset so tell me where TRACK is and I would gladly come down and take one for a ride and give you an honest review of it but I can still tell you know I wouldn't pay £16k for one.

I have been looking at this for well over a year now, I LIKE the look of it (maybe with exception to the headlights. I don't know about target market, I am a 1000cc sportsbike owner, but something draws me in.
However, like already said £16K for it, sorry not in my league. IF i was gona buy a new one, maybe just maybe after a test ride I would blow £10K (so similar to a R1 or something)but never £16K just too much.
A shame really as this would take the bike fraternity to another level, I think there are enough 'maybes' out there for it to work and start a trend, but unfortunatly not at this price.
I believe there is a Kwaka KL650 diesel variant that will come out to the public in asia later this year, that will be the one to watch.

I think this bike is excellent. Everything I have ever wanted. Glad to see Erik (the person who has designed and made it) has contributed. I will test ride one after Easter down in Dorset hopefully. I love the CVT, the longevity, the ability to go down tracks etc. The only problem is the price. £10 K yes, I would buy one now, £16K is too much for me. I am hoping prices will come down as mass production kicks in!

Erick - can you do me a cash deal?
