The best of Wheels & Waves

Two new 'Yard Built' Yamahas and several near-unrecognisable R nineTs at massive custom bike fest

TWO previously unseen ‘Yard Built’ Yamahas were among the best of the metal on show at the Wheels & Waves custom bike festival in Biarritz, France, at the weekend.

One was an XJR1300 customised by Numbnut Motorcycles in the Netherlands. Called the ‘Botafogo-N’ its modifications included wire-spoked wheels and custom fairing and bodywork.

The other was an SR400 customised by ItRocks! Bikes in Portugal, called the ‘CS_05 Zen’, with a monocoque red and yellow tank, seat and tail unit, and a single-sided swing-arm. The two machines are the latest in a string Yamaha custom bikes made under the firm's 'Yard Built' banner.

Other bikes on display at the annual custom bike festival included several near-unrecognisable BMW R nineTs and a cute stripped-down monkey bike.

The R nineT seems to have become a favourite of custom builders and BMW chose Wheels & Waves to unveil a new scrambler edition which will make a cheaper entry-level machine than currently on sale. See our separate story.
