THE 2012 Suzuki GSX-R1000 will cost £10,999.

New motorcycles are usually launched a couple of months before they're available to buy, however, the new model is being launched on the 8th of February to the UK press for review and the bike will be available in dealers from the 11th of February, meaning those wanting to read about the bike in the magazine press will have to wait a further four weeks. Unfortunately, Visordown won't be on the launch so we can't bring you our verdict on the day of the bike's launch.

Suzuki's 2012 GSX-R1000 price makes it the cheapest of the Japanese lite-class superbikes, with Yamaha's YZF-R1 now retailing at £11,999, Kawasaki's ZX-10R also £11,999 and Honda's Fireblade at £11,300.

Suzuki can go and fly a fucking kite. Yes, this bike is capable of more than I am, and is probably fun to ride, but where the hell has the passion and innovation gone to? Zero commitment to racing or making racing work; zero innovation or desire to significantly update their premier class litre superbike; zero fucking interest in their customers at all.

Granted all of the manufacturers are running longer update gaps on their bikes, but at least their stuff looks fresh, new, and exciting. I'd be hard pressed to find a dealer in my city who actually has a new Gixxer on the floor, and even if they did, I'd need to check the sticker to make sure it wasn't a mint condition 2008 model. All those muppets are doing is inviting long term fans to go to Aprilia; Honda; Kawasaki or BMW to buy a bike from a company that actually gives a shit about high performance machines; the racing I love to watch and the kind of road bikes I like to ride. It's tragic that "Own the racetrack" has morphed into "We don't give a shit. Here's some shiny new brakes" over the years.

Disclaimer: I ride a 2005 GSX-R1000 and have been a GSX-R fanatic ever since I clapped eyes on a GSX-R750 in 1997. I'd no more buy a new Suzuki GSX-R1000 than shoot myself in the face.

Paul Stevens, it cost money to go racing. And they can't be blamed for pulling out of MotoGP, but they're still showing commitment. Look at their line up for the roads this year! Guy, Conor and Alastair, with Alastair and Josh in BSB, plus Hopper and Camier in WSB. So that's not zero commitment to racing.

Surely it couldnt cost that much to give the bike a cosmetic makeover even if the chassis and engine were not much different... id never consider a Gixer on looks alone... or an R1 for that matter!
